Social Networking
Participants Keeping Each Other Engaged
Why Social Networking: Research shows that friends and peers are strong influencers of health behavior. Sites like Facebook show that when the technology platform is in place, people want to share and communicate on a frequent basis. EcFit's technology platform harnesses the power of social networking to drive positive health behavior.
EcFit Friends: The Friend concept in EcFit is how participants control the people who can see their information . Friends can also send messages to each other through EcFit that are private and not visible to everyone. Participants choose who on their Team - or not on their Team - they want to designate as a friend.
Most participants make their stepcounts and activity minutes available for Friends to see and compare themselves to. As another example, an EcFit participant could decide to share their percentage-weight-lost with Friends, but hide the actual weight values.
Comparison Graphs: One of the most fun applications of Social Networking in EcFit is the powerful graphing features that allow Friends to compare their progress in activity or weight loss against their Friends. This often leads Friends to send EcFit messages to each other - either congratulations or telling their Friend to pick up the pace!
Competition Discussion Boards: Each competition has its own discussion board. These are usually the most active discussion boards in all of EcFit. Whatever team is ahead will want to talk about it - whatever teams are moving up will have their comments as well. A little good-natured "trash talking" keeps everyone's energy levels up.
Team Discussion Boards: Each team in EcFit has its own discussion board. This is the place where team social support is most visible. Teammates post inspirational messages, challenge each other to higher levels of activity, and arrange team walking or running sessions.
